Hoppers, Silos, Bins and Storage Solutions

Dec 23, 2025 By shapa Uncategorized

It used to be that all you needed to store your materials was a large area where your product could be piled high on top of itself out in the open air. As time has moved forward the need for more sophisticated storage solutions are required in order to safely store the ever increasing range of bulk solid materials with their differing properties. In order to achieve this a more technical approach is required for the design of your storage solutions.

The SHAPA community have produced a range of technical papers which are free to all and fully downloadable from the SHAPA website including, the Benefits of Powder Characterisation, Ten Key Steps for Achieving Reliable Flow from Hoppers and Achieving Reliable Flow from Existing Hoppers to name but a few. These papers outline the benefits and possible solutions to ensure your storage solution is designed to suit the characteristics of the materials to be stored. These coupled with the paper on discharge aids covers the requirements for successfully handling your product. Whether your product is, potentially explosive, cohesive, hydroscopic, friable or sensitive to temperature fluctuations you can be assured that the SHAPA membership can and will fulfil your requirements for a successful storage solution. For more information visit the SHAPA website at www.shapa.co.uk or email info@shapa.co.uk

A glance at the product finder on the SHAPA website will immediately indicate the extent of equipment and services available including all your bulk material storage requirements, all supported by over forty years’ worth of technical, commercial and legal know-how. The SHAPA membership is as strong as ever and it continues to strive for technical excellence in the pursuit of bulk solids handling solutions. Membership has consistently exceeded over one hundred companies and organisations for many years. These member companies have enjoyed SHAPA benefits and continue to contribute to the success of the association and the bulk solids industry, if you are interested in learning more about SHAPA or wish to join the association just visit the SHAPA webpage at www.shapa.co.uk and look up the about us page.

Continued Success

Since the industrial revolution our progress has been driven by innovation and invention. The desire to learn, improve and push at boundaries is an integral part of our continued development. Whilst innovation and invention in the bulk solids handling and processing industry seldom (if ever!) hits the headlines, it nonetheless drives the machinery of progress across an enormous range of industries. With this in mind, the Solids Handling Industry Awards will be open for nominations from the 1st December 2022. This years SHAPA awards are in five main categories including Innovation, Export, Newcomer, Sustainability, Apprentice Prize award and SHAPA Company of the year. The association would like to take this opportunity to applaud all our past winners and indeed all the contenders who exhibited exemplary standards.
