Storage Solutions
It used to be that all you needed to store your materials was a large area where your product could
be piled high on top of itself out in the open air. As time moved forward the need for more sophisticated storage solutions were required to safely store the ever-increasing range of bulk solid
materials with their different characteristics. In order to achieve this a more technical approach is
required for the design of your storage solutions. The SHAPA community have produced a large
range of technical papers which are free and fully downloadable from the SHAPA website including,
the Benefits of Powder Characterisation, Ten Key Steps for Achieving Reliable Flow from Hoppers,
Achieving Reliable Flow from Existing Hoppers and the recently published Cost of Ownership paper.
These papers outline the benefits and possible solutions to ensure your silos, bins and hoppers are
designed to suit the characteristics of the material to be stored as well as considering its unique
environment. These papers coupled with the additional papers on discharge aids and conveying
cover the requirements for successfully handling. Whether the product is, potentially explosive,
cohesive, hydroscopic, friable or sensitive to temperature or moisture fluctuations you can be
assured that the SHAPA membership can and will fulfil your requirements for a successful storage
solution. For more information visit the SHAPA website at www.shapa.co.uk or email info@shapa.co.uk . In addition to storage solutions a glance at the equipment finder on the SHAPA website will immediately show the extent and variety of equipment and services available for all your bulk material storage requirements, all supported by over forty years’ worth of technical, commercial and legal know-how.
Continued Success
SHAPA continues to support the success of its members and it was pleased to be able to host the
Awards Presentation Lunch in person for the 2020 and 2021 Solids Handling Industry Awards. The
awards lunch held in Lichfield in September attracted many of the SHAPA members who were keen
to get together and network following the reduction in the restrictions due to Covid. Members who
collected awards, included, Aptech, Thamesside Sensors, Spiroflow, Russell Finex, Perry of Oakley,
Schenck and Ajax. We wish the congratulate them and all of the other nominees for their successes
over the last two years. We now look forward to the 2022 Solids Handling Awards which open in
December this year with entries closing on the 28th of February 2022, we look forward to hearing
about the success stories once again.
The SHAPA membership is as strong as ever and it continues to strive for technical excellence in the
